Trauma Therapy

Trauma is a pervasive feeling of being unsafe in your own body and the world. There are traumatic incidents that happen out of the blue like a car accident or witnessing violence and they can shake our world and leave us feeling not at home with ourselves. On the other hand we can experience relationship based traumas that can be hard for us to define, may be you have always struggled in relationships and live with a lot of blame, shame and guilt.  Trauma is a feeling of not feeling safe in your own body and feeling disconnected from who you are. May be you have felt misunderstood your whole life, that despite trying your best and always putting others before yourself, you always feel you are wrong and in the wrong.

I am here to tell you, you are not wrong, broken, faulty or bad. You are not what has happened to you, you are so much more. Healing and recovery from trauma is not only possible but probable. How do I know that? I have experienced it, and witnessed it with those who I have helped. I will not give you false promises, and say it is easy. It is not. It can take time, but it is worth every moment, because you are! Trauma therapy does not need to be traumatising. I am passionate about delivering safe trauma therapy. There are many practicing counsellors and psychotherapists out there, however, most do not possess specific qualification to work with trauma and complex trauma. Being traumatised means you are vulnerable to retraumatisation through engaging in therapy with someone who is not trained in safe trauma work, I am trained and happy to share my certificates on request.

Karuna Therapeutic Services works within the three-phase trauma model for safe and effective trauma treatment. In the initial session we will collaborate and discuss your needs, goals and aspirations, this information will inform the individualised plan we will come up to help you heal from your trauma. Karuna Therapeutic Services firmly believes that trauma and traumatic experiences, are a spectrum and affect each person in individual ways therefore, therapy needs to be flexible and sensitive to these individual needs and goals. The most fundamental work within trauma therapy is to promote your sense of safety and balance before we move towards processing of thought, feelings and experiences.

Being somatically trained means that I have an array of  strategies and techniques to draw upon to help even the most complex of trauma, I have worked with many people who have received medicalised identifications of Personality Disorders , PTSD and/or Complex PTSD. My approach is to work within a non-pathologising and anti-oppressive way, to centre your experiences of what has happened to you and how it has impacted on your relationships to self, others and the world. When you feel sufficiently safe and wish to process your trauma memories then we can use the trauma memory reprocessing techniques described below. By the end of our time together you will be resourced to use your knowledge of trauma, it effects and a multitude of techniques to practice to help bring about a sense of safety and calm whenever you need it.
